National Lollipop Day is July 20th!

Lollipops are a staple of childhood, aren’t they? Recently, I visited a bank here in my town, and they actually still had small bowls of lollipops on the desk for patrons. Yes, I took one. Grape. My all-time favorite (followed by orange, lime, and the elusive rootbeer-flavored ones).

Lollipops are embedded in our popular culture, too:

Just how many licks does it take…

Never jump into a pile of leaves with a wet sucker…

If you were able to place either or both of those familiar statements, then you had a great childhood. Of course, I’m a little biased, I suppose. A generation or two before me, Shirley Temple captured hearts with “On the Good Ship Lollipop,” too.

And finally, to really celebrate National Lollipop Day, here’s an old favorite from the Chordettes, “Lollipop.” Sing along, and get a lollipop!
