Fans of the Star Trek series celebrate First Contact Day on April 5 to mark the day in 2063 when humans make their first contact with the Vulcans.
Okay, so now you are wondering just how I’m going to link Star Trek with poetry, right?
There are many ways: Spock often quoted poetry, there were episodes with Shakespeare plays, and then, there’s this wonderful poem by Dayna Patterson, titled, “Study for Belief with Lines from ‘Star Trek: The Original Series’.” This is one delightfully angsty, introspective poem. The poet uses lines from the series, intermixed and juxtaposed with musings about existence, one’s own as well as humankind’s. Amazing.
Enjoy!
