Conference on Poetry and Teaching Director Dawn Potter co-directs the Kauffmann Summer Writing Seminar, a free high school environmental writing seminar for Maine students and students from all around New England (new this year).
Attendees will have an opportunity to learn about environmental writing and experience a sea kayaking adventure on the coast of Maine.
The Seminar, free of charge and open by application to all New England high school students, includes a writing workshop (where students, in a guided workshop setting, share feedback on each other’s writing), a video lecture by National Geographic Explorer of the year Jon Turk, and an overnight kayak trip to an island on the Maine coast, where students do writing exercises and experience the beauty of coastal Maine. No experience with environmental writing is necessary-just a willingness to learn and fully participate.
All camping and kayaking equipment and food will be provided.
