Ilya Kaminsky Named as a 2019 National Book Award Finalist

The Frost Place would like to congratulate Ilya Kaminsky for being named a finalist for the 2019 National Book Award. Kaminsky was nominated for his collection Deaf Republic (Graywolf), from which he read so movingly during the 2019 Frost Place Summer Reading Series. The book of poems is largely political, deeply insightful, and ultimately forces the reader to confront a kind of blindness to events that people often choose not to engage with. Kaminsky’s reading was profound and thought-provoking, and his nomination for this collection is more than deserved.
