Tracy K. Smith Reads a Poem by Poetry Seminar Alumna Aileen Bassis

Aileen Bassis reading poetry in Robert Frost’s Barn at The Frost Place Poetry Seminar in 2015

For #NationalPoetryMonth, Tracy K. Smith’s assignment to WNYC listeners was:

Write a poem of 10-12 lines that consists of only one sentence, and that also includes the following:

  1. a reference to something that exists in the speaker’s present, and which you examine by way of a simile or metaphor
  2. a memory of something from the speaker’s past considered by way of a different simile or metaphor

Smith selected a poem by Aileen Bassis, who attended the Poetry Seminar, from all the submissions. Congratulations Aileen! What a pleasure to hear you on the air in Tracy K. Smith’s voice. Listen below or at WNYC.
