It’s the birthday of the feminist writer and activist who said, “A woman without a man is like a fish without a bicycle”: Gloria Steinem.


 

 

 

 

 

 

And it’s the birthday of a writer who said that her subject was “the action of grace in territory held largely by the devil.” That’s Flannery O’Connor.
